Albuquerque New Mexico Vacation
date posted: 10-8-2011

When you think of traveling by RV down autumn roads made bright by fall foliage, do you think of Albuquerque? You should, because the region surrounding this ancient New Mexico city comes to life when the leaves begin to turn.

White Sands New Mexico Vacation

The Tularosa Basin, in southern New Mexico, isn’t especially overcrowded today. It was practically uninhabited, at least by the lights of Washington bean-counters, when, 70-odd years ago, chunks of it were given over to serve as a range on which to light up missiles and barrage the poor horned lizards and pronghorn with artillery and tank fire. The firepower would become more awesome in 1945, when the basin saw the world’s first atomic explosion, the one from which bomb inventor Robert Oppenheimer recoiled and said, “Now I am become Death, destroyer of worlds.”

Chimayo New Mexico Vacation

This past January I spent a week in New Mexico with my good friend Kate. It was her birthday and I said months before that I’d go wherever she wanted to go. We went to New Mexico. In the 6 days there (less if you don’t count arrival on Saturday and leaving on Friday) we put 800 miles on the car we rented. I did the driving.  I was ready for a vacation from my vacation when i returned!

Propane Price Gouging
date posted: 01-10-2000

The Santa Fe New Mexican ran an article by Bob Quick 11/17/08 titled:
'Cheaper gas, propane bring relief to struggling households'

An excerpt from the article reads: "The price of propane, which closely tracks the price of crude oil, also is down this heating season, falling from $2.69 per gallon to $2.24 per gallon in the last three weeks,
according to Jose Garcia, one of the managers of AAA Gas Service, a propane company."

I have been curious why propane hasn't gone down much in Angel Fire. I telephoned a propane provider in Las Vegas NM and their price is $1.99, but they don't service Angel Fire. So if propane is $2.24 in Santa Fe and $1.99 in Las Vegas, why is propane in Angel Fire $2.44 - $2.99?

A couple months ago, there was a man in Taos who would daily stand at the corner of Hwy 585 & 68 with a sign 'Gas in Santa Fe is $2.49. This is when gas in Taos was over $3.00. The Taos stations rather quickly lowered their gas prices. I wonder if something similar would bring propane prices down in Angel Fire, or what it would take to get local propane providers to give us a little relief.

The majority of residents are employed locally and are in the tourism industry. The primary employer is Angel Fire Resort which offers summer and winter employment. Being a tourist destination brings thousands of visitors to this quiet town during the winter months. Summer, however, provides a more relaxed pace of vacationers simply enjoying the cool, fresh air and the wonderful smell of pine trees. Being a relatively young town, Angel Fire is not without its growing pains. There is an increasing number of people making Angel Fire their full-time residence. As a result the Village of Angel Fire has taken over the Village sewer and water system, They are working right now on expanding the system. There is a new community center which was completed during the Summer 98 (ask for directions - it's not on a main road). Several new office complexes have been built in the last 3 years.
