 Thirty miles north of Santa Fe, NM , the snow-fed waters of the Rio del Medio and the Rio Frijoles begin a 2,000-mile journey and a 7,000-foot descent to the Gulf of Mexico. For a time they gather at Santa Cruz Lake at the base of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains near Chimayo, behind the 125-foot Santa Cruz Dam. |

 Orilla Verde Recreation Area is nestled along the banks of the Rio Grande, within the steep-walled Rio Grande Gorge. The local terrain is comprised of rugged, wide open mesas and chiseled steep canyons. The elevation along the river is 6,100 feet and rises 800 feet at the gorge rim. The Taos Valley Overlook offers stunning and breathtaking views of the Rio Grande Gorge and Sangre de Cristo Mountains from the mesa top above the river. |

 The Rio Grande flows out of the snowcapped Rocky Mountains in Colorado and journeys 1,900 miles to the Gulf of Mexico. It passes through 800-foot chasms of the Rio Grande Gorge a few miles east of Taos New Mexico, a wild and remote area of northern New Mexico. The canyon provides a wide variety of Taos recreational opportunities, luring fishermen, hikers, artists, and whitewater boating enthusiasts. In 1968, the Rio Grande and Red River were among the first eight rivers Congress designated into the National Wild and Scenic River System to protect outstanding resources values. |

The majority of residents are employed locally and are in the tourism industry. The primary employer is Angel Fire Resort which offers summer and winter employment. Being a tourist destination brings thousands of visitors to this quiet town during the winter months. Summer, however, provides a more relaxed pace of vacationers simply enjoying the cool, fresh air and the wonderful smell of pine trees. Being a relatively young town, Angel Fire is not without its growing pains. There is an increasing number of people making Angel Fire their full-time residence. As a result the Village of Angel Fire has taken over the Village sewer and water system, They are working right now on expanding the system. There is a new community center which was completed during the Summer 98 (ask for directions - it's not on a main road). Several new office complexes have been built in the last 3 years. |

This course offers a view of the Sangre de Cristo Mountain for a backdrop. The design includes several dogleg fairways, and some holes have water in play. The greens have medium speed and size. The signature hole is #9, a 572-yard, par 5, which plays slightly downhill and is protected by water on the front and right of the green. |
